Theodore von Kármán Fellowship granted to Dr. Satender Kataria to visit Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi in 2019
Dr. Satender Kataria from the Chair of Electronic Devices at RWTH Aachen University has been granted a Theodore von Kármán Fellowship to visit the Department of Physics, IIT Delhi as a visiting scholar. The Kármán Fellowship allows scientists to conduct a research project of their own choice in co-operation with a foreign host institute. The scholarships were set up to foster international exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue by RWTH scientists, either by spending time abroad as visiting scholars or through incoming collaborators. Dr. Kataria will visit IIT Delhi in India, which received Institute of Eminence status in 2018 by the government of India, one of six institutes in India which has been granted the status.
Dr. Kataria significantly contributes towards the research activities at the Chair of Electronics Devices and the Aachen Center for Graphene and 2D Materials. His current research interests are towards understanding the charge transfer across the interface of different 2D materials, including 2D/3D heterostructures. Such studies have fundamental technological importance given that most of the potential applications of 2D materials require a support substrate like silicon. Also, 2D/2D and 2D/3D devices have shown great potential for various applications as gas-, bio- and optical sensors.
Dr. Kataria will be hosted by Prof. J. P. Singh, who works in GLAD and the Nano-CVD lab, Department of Physics, IIT Delhi and will be supported by Prof. B. R. Mehta working as Dean at Research & Development, IIT Delhi. Dr. Kataria’s research proposal targets charge-transfer at the nano-scale across the interface of heterostructured 2D/2D and 2D/3D hybrid devices using experimental facilities available at IIT Delhi. His studies are expected to contribute to fundamental understanding of 2D device limits and opportunities. The research stay will foster and strengthen the exchange of expertise and people between RWTH Aachen and IIT Delhi in the field of 2D materials.
